Wine division of Oakham Ales

Bellwether Wines - Warren Ball I am delighted to introduce you to our 2017/18 Bellwether Wines Portfolio. There can be no escaping the one big challenge that has dominated our conversations within the UK wine industry over the past few months following the EU Referendum vote in June 2016 – the impact of the devaluation of Sterling against all major currencies around the world. In a 12-month period, we have seen a double-digit decline against the Euro, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, NZ Dollar and the South African Rand and as such have been working extremely hard with our supplier partners to mitigate this impact as much as possible, and seek out new and exciting wines to offer alongside the core wines that have become firm favourites with our customers and consumers alike. The trend for drinking ‘less but better’ continues and with this in mind we have increased our offering in the mid-price point bracket.

I would like to draw your attention to just a few of the many highlights for this year...

At Bellwether, we have a passion for wines from the French region of ‘Alsace’ and following extensive tastings and research we are delighted to feature the wines from ‘Gustave Lorentz’. Since 1836 Gustave Lorentz have owned vineyards in this region and their wines have gained worldwide recognition. The wines from this region epitomise the people, its culture and its unique ‘Terroir’, producing some of the greatest white wines in the world. The wines complement a variety of food dishes and work particularly well with modern fusion and Asian cuisine.

From New Zealand we are introducing ‘Ward Valley’ from Marlborough made by award winning winemaker, Dave Clouston (Two Rivers). Ward Valley is situated at the southern frontier of Marlborough making it a special place within a special place - wild, untamed, and unique. We are exceptionally excited to bring these wines to you!

We have strengthened our Italian range with the addition of a ‘Salice Salentino’, a ‘Primitivo’ and from Sicily a ‘Nero d’Avola’. Likewise in Spain, look out for a delicious new ‘Old Vine Garnacha’ and a stunning ‘Monastrell’!

We also continue our partnership with the stunning Sparkling Wines from Bernard-Massard in Luxembourg. Jean Bernard-Massard founded the business in 1921 after a period of time learning his skills in the Champagne region of France, and the wines are truly remarkable in terms of quality, presentation, and above all taste.

Elsewhere in the list, there are new entries from Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia. Wherever you look in our portfolio you will find great wines made by great producers, offering great value at every price point.

At Oakham Ales and Bellwether Wines we pride ourselves on quality and service and in delivering to you, our customers, the very highest standards that we have set ourselves as a business.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and I hope you enjoy our wines as much as we did in selecting them for you.

Best Regards
